Why no reference to charcoal fertilizer/Terra Preta in your list of mitigation proposals?  The more I've looked at it, the more this technology seems able to address the three most serious issues of the Global Problematique: CO2 buildup, transportation fuel shortfalls and food scarcity.  And it scales pretty well, too.

If we can talk about building 700 nukes with a straight face, we should be able to talk about this low-tech approach as well.</description>
