On January 8th this blog had a post titled "Climate Confusion at the Washington Post." It noted the 75 F heat wave in Washington DC, and chastised the Post for not blaming it on global warming. Commenters here warned that one could not draw conclusions about climate from a week or two of weather, but they were mostly ridiculed.

Now we have news reports of bitter cold in the northeast (http://wwwa.accuweather.com/news-top-headline.asp?partner=accuweather&traveler=0). Temperatures this morning were only 9 F in New York City.

Where are the blog posts now? If you persist in the belief that weather is climate, why aren't you all over these cold spells? Why so much silence?

Perhaps, it seems we can conclude, that just maybe you have an agenda, and record cold does not sell it as well as does warmth.

Hmm?

Kevin -
As you noticed, Climate Progress has recently focused on the State of the Union address and articles or appearances by its editor, Joseph Romm. It is not negligence, there is simply an overwhelming amount going on.

As for the temperatures in the Northeast, my first reaction is that they are not as anomalous as what we saw before. A record-cold winter day is more intuitive than a winter day with spring or summer temperatures. At the link you provided, I could only find an article reporting that winter has arrived. A cold day in winter that is "the coldest day in the Northeast so far this winter" or in two winters, flows naturally from the seasonal cycle.

Climate change does have an impact on cold weather conditions, particularly on increased snowfall due to the warmer atmosphere's ability to hold more moisture. If those stories have not been addressed on Climate Progress, it is because there is an abundance of events and news related to climate science, politics, and solutions.

As for the bias in covering the 75 degree day in January in Washington, DC, the explanation stems from the event's location. The warm weather was in DC, the blog is based in DC, and the article was run in a DC paper. Taking that into consideration, it was impossible to ignore.
