This is a good article. The problem with the sports industry is that it distracts us from climate change and peak oil -- impending crises that will spell the end of things as we know it. Humanity will continue but we face a major economic collapse that could last hundreds of years. The great wealth based on cheap oil will dissapear in our lifetimes. Flying from city to city to play sports will be a thing of the past in a few decades when the oil runs out. The world's leaders are doing little more than talk at this point -- carbon offsets are just delaying the inevitable. Everywhere we see "greenwash" -- a pretense -- and very little action to actually reduce greenhouse gas emissions by corporations or governments. The morally responsible thing to do is to do away with frivolous entertainment such as sports and focus all of our energies on trying to become truly carbon neutral -- this requires a major restructuring of society.
