To emphasize the point made above "the energy carrier of the future is electricity" consider that even biomass might be better used to produce electricity than liquid fuel. For example, in the supplementary materials to Tilman's Science article Carbon-Negative Biofuels from Low-Input High-Diversity Grassland Biomass:
http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/314/5805/1598
Table S3 shows that the best GHG-reduction comes from producing electricity from the biomass (10,088), instead of ethanol (6,164) or synfuel (9,626).
(Numbers are kg CO2e / ha)

Interesting. Yes, if sequestation works, then biomass gasification or coal-biomass gasification with CCS gives you negative carbon electicity.

Given what's happened with carbon, using hydrogen for power could have unintended consequences. Is decarbonization all but inevitable. I think there is a difference between greens and climates about priorities and directions.

What we forget to think about with solar is that...

wait...

Wait...

we have roofs.

We don't need 10,000 new square miles. They are already there, in spades.

Best,

D

say butanol not ethanol. The energy yield is 42% higher than ethanol. www,butanol.com

One important question is related to overpopulation of the planet. Measures must be taken as soon as possible to keep control on global population to avoid the increase of the the contamination on the atmophere, oceans and rivers.
