The coal industry certainly has stepped up its green-washing PR this year. My local Orlando Utilities Commission now plans a "clean" coal-gasification addition to its two coal-fired units near town.

The American public, however, has become more sophisticated than to swallow the fossil-fuels industry hype.

I am encouraged by the rising efficiency of photovoltaic hardware and the dropping prices for such systems. Florida's new Governor has announced that the Sunshine State will follow California regulations on greenhouse-gas reductions.

I plan to purchase a Tesla, Phoenix, Miles or ZAP sedan EV in a few years, followed by a home built with grid-connected solar energy equipment. I will probably receive $5-10,000 in tax reductions for these items.

Put in a geothermal heating and cooling system, plus a solar hot water, so you don't need any natural gas
