The Best Voice Dictation Software

Okay, this is somewhat off topic, although I do all of my blogging using Dragon NaturallySpeaking (DNS) voice dictation software.

Anyway, a lot of people I know tried voice dictation a few years ago and gave up on it, since it wasn’t that good, especially IBM’s Via Voice. But the DNS software is really kickass now.


I have been recommending DNS (from Nuance) to people since version 8.0. I just downloaded version 9.5 VR for Vista — and with five minutes of training it is incredibly accurate. Plus you can navigate all major programs — you can easily dictate into Word and even a WordPress window or even a Firefox web address line.

You should try to get a computer with 2 GB RAM, though since voice dictation is a memory hog.

Anyway, if you are tired of typing, give it a try. I’m confident you’ll be happy with the results.

And if you see an odd-looking mistake on the blog, it is probably the PC “mis-hearing” me.

    Interesting, I can’t wait till everyone in the surrounding cubicles is using voice recognition…

    Yes, it’s true, the system won’t work that well in open office environment. I work out of a home office so I don’t have that problem. Still, it isn’t any noisier than talking on the phone, if that is any consolation.
