		<description>As president of Jewish Vegetarians of North America, I want to point out that an essential part of efforts to control global warming is a major shift to plant-based diets. A 2006 UN FAO report indicated that animal-based agriculture emits more greenhouse gases (18 percent in CO2 equivalents) than all the cars and other forms of transportation (13.5%) and that the number of farmed animals is projected to double in the next 50 years/ If that happens, the increased greenhouse gas emissions will negate improvements from many positive changes.

hence, a switch to plant-based diets is essential to help move our imperiled planet to a sustainable path.</description>
