I attended a presentation on "Peak Oil" yesterday at our State Capitol (CT). It was presented by ASPO, a group that struck me as credible. Their basic message was that we either are now, or are shortly coming to the peak of oil output worldwide, that production has flattened out for the past 30 months, and that the beginning of a downward trend of global oil production, coupled with continued increasing demand, would soon send us into a supply and price crisis that will change the way we live dramatically. They predicted troubles would begin within the next 5 years.

It seems we really are sleepwalking towards disaster, both ecologically and economically. The cause of both is one and the same. We really need a world-war style mobilization of clean energy production, conservation and automobile retooling to begin YESTERDAY.

Meanwhile our heroes in DC can barely move a climate bill out of subcommittee - whoa! or is that woe?
