Totally agree on BES. I did a project in AK a couple of years ago, and saw quite a few new houses going up using SIPs. Not because of a regulation, but because it's f'n cold and they work. And they are no more expensive and have less waste. The market would certainly respond down here if IBC standards were adopted at the state level.

Best,

Ronald's lament is one reason building efficiency standards such as California's Title 24 are so important. The Federal government should adopt such standards for the whole country. The problem is that our President is AWOL again (e.g. with respect to his 2000.09.29 statement in Saginaw where he said: "We will require all power plants to meet clean-air standards in order to reduce emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, mercury and carbon dioxide within a reasonable period of time.")

What is the U.S. doing to address climate change?

To bad the answer isn't about how the people of the U.S. are doing things differently like changing to more fuel efficient vehicles when possible, insisting on more insulation, buying only energy star and better appliances, driving fewer miles, etc.

Around our rural area within 4 miles, 4 new houses have been built, none of which were built using passive solar for heating assist. One house even was built on the north side of a grove of trees with the house now having no sun exposure and a northern wind exposure.

They were probably all built with our states regulation minimum insulation standard, but I think in rural areas, we have the advantage of not having next door neighbors who would object to different house styles. But of course, passive solar designs don’t have to look of the ordinary. Well, that was their choice. Passive solar has worked I think well with my house.

Just as my friends have been telling me when I bring up global warming, no body cares.
