its impossible to know when the La Nina is going to end.  Most experts agree at the La Nina will last at least until may, but more than half of the models predict that the La Nina will last into the summer and maybe even autumn.  Unlike El Ninos, La Ninas can last for years in some cases they are recorded to last up to 3 years.

The thing is that this is not merely are part of a short term weather phenomena, but the first of a shift of the PDO into a negative phase, which will last for decades.  Making La Ninas more common that El Ninos, just the opposite of what happened in 1978, the last time the PDO shifted.

Australia's climate, and the World's, will most likely return to something more like 1950-1978, where the weather commonly associated with la Nina will become more dominate, while El Ninos will become weaker and less frequent.</description>
