After Saturday’s fine round at Augusta — which would have won him the event had he duplicated it on Sunday — I’m sure Tiger was terribly disappointed with his final round. Especially given how stellar his play was earlier in the year. Heck, the greatest golfer of all time (sorry, Jack) would have won had he merely made all of his putts within 6 feet on Sunday, since everyone around him was choking.
Congrats to Trevor Immelman. But as Bud Poliquin writes (here) — Tiger is the only one who should feel disappointment over his play: “That he was a ‘disappointment” while finishing all the way back in second place in a major should boggle those with minds.”

While Tiger Woods is a phenomenal competitor and unparalleled shot maker who will one day surely wear the “greatest” crown, he is not quite there yet. The reason Jack Nicklaus is still the greatest of all time is not only his 19 major victories but that he finished second in 21 majors. Throw in the times the finished third and the record is too amazing for words. Interesting that the last two Masters champions laid up on the back nine par 5s.
Way to sneak a car ad into your blog. It’s not the first time. I don’t think buick (as a GM brand) is really known for their climate progressiveness.
Do you get paid for product placement?
Yeah — I thought about that. I still have not figured out why Tiger endorses such a stodgy old-school company. Not like he needs the money … or even the cars….
Excuse me. General Motors is a leader in EV research and development (hope they are no longer curse words here) and produces a wide line of hybrid vehicles, including the Car of the Year Malibu Hybrid. GM quickly sells every hybrid vehicle it can produce. If you truly desire a transportation wedge support and promote ways to increase the specific production capacity for hybrids at GM and all other companies. This is the green jobs revolution.
I may be mistaken, but I think Tiger is now using a reusable water bottle out on the course. That could actually be a large environmental positive with the “be like Mike Tiger” contingent.
Signed, your Mickey-Mouse-”Sigg”-bottle-dangling-from-his-carry-bag-duffer…
I think Tiger represents Buick because he (and golf in general) represent the powerful, conservative, moneyed group in society, the same people who are quick to deny and delay AGW and its solutions.
Paul K, the “transportation wedge” has two wheels and a human engine.
Ben,
Bikes are great in mild weather in flat areas for those physically fit enough to ride. Very few ride in Pittsburgh in January. Tiger surely endorses Buick because they pay him lots of money. That does not justify your unwholesome characterization of golf and golfers. Golf has become a game of the people. It is the surest path to enlightenment and self discovery. Continue your scurrilous attacks on the grandest of all pursuits if you will, but know that I will defend golf until you pry the 2 iron from my cold dead hands. (That is, of course, after I finish my wife’s weekend honey-do list.)
