Please post your comment on EPA’s aburdly whitewashed ‘Greenversations’ blog
[Since our last e-mail campaign worked so well, I thought I’d try again.]
Turns out the world’s blandest environmental blog, “Greenversations,” is paid for by your taxpayer dollar:
You can waste a few minutes of time convincing yourself that it is devoid of useful information on what is certainly the greatest environmental threat the nation faces.
So why am I telling you to waste your time on the official blog of the EPA? Because they have just posted:
If you have nothing else to do — and that is pretty obvious since you’re still reading this post — why not let EPA hear your answer to that question (and feel free to post your comments here also)? Here are what some other people have already written in:
I’m surprised the EPA is more incompetent and politically controlled than what I believed.
I’ve had a realization our government really is too big if there is time for government workers to maintian blogs like this at the taxpayer expense.
OK, I learned that once you sign up for this stupid blog, you get notices every week that clutter up your inbox. Although I like getting EPA news releases so I can keep up with what is going on at EPA, these blog notice emails get comingled with the real news emails. EPA has replied that they are aware that they are spamming us with unwanted emails about the inane blog, but they have no inclination to change the system to allow us to opt out of the blog notice emails. THANK YOU EPA!
Amazed that my tax money is paying for things like this, WHAT A WASTE…!!!
You EPA guys should spend more time talking across your artificial boundaries (air, water, waste, etc.) so that when one “environmental concern” is addressed (Hg or other heavy metal “air pollution” for example) it does not become a problem somewhere else (like in the water, or solid wastes). WORK FOR A COMPREHENSIVE SOLUTION, OR AT LEAST COMPREHENSIVE/COORDINATED RULES TO START WITH. Or, learn how to write ANY rule that can past the Court’s muster!!!

My post (I can see why you put this under “Humor”):
“I have been surprised that the EPA can delay implementing CO2 regulations, get ordered by the court to come up with a plan, have the Bush administration refuse to open their email, and then decide not to do anything until the next administration comes to power.
Actually, I don’t know why I would be surprised by even this, considering the environmental record of the Bush administration. It’s just that somehow each new attempt to ignore or circumvent the law still surprises me anew.”

Well, I might point out to Greenversations that Congress should get GAO to conduct a full blown investigation of EPA censorship from top to bottom, but now no staff would dare talk to them for fear of losing their jobs: EPA has imposed an agency-wide gag order, preventing staff from talking with GAO investigators, its own Inspector General (!!!), and the media.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ wp-dyn/ content/ article/ 2008/ 07/ 28/ AR2008072801198_pf.html
The prerequisite for speaking out as an EPA employee, apparently, is to stop being an EPA employee. Jason Burnett has set a good example and has revealed how Admin Johnson is bending to White House pressure to break the oath of office to protect human health and the environment, but so far, Jason stands alone.

But, hey, let’s not focus on the negative. In many areas EPA is doing “a helluva job, Stevie” — why just today I was worrying myself sick that I was being poisoned by my own kitchen countertops, and thanks to EPA’s top notch research, I can finally breathe a sigh of relief! Thanks EPA! Keep up the greening of America!

No, my comment is still up there. It has passed “moderation” status. Perhaps the employees are emboldened by the coming departure of Bush.

@John: We handled your comment just like all others, as explained in the right sidebar of the blog under the link to the comment policy: “Comments submitted after hours or on weekends will be posted as early as possible the next business day.”
Back on topic to everyone reading this, we’re still exploring the best way to use blogs and other social media to help accomplish our mission. Please let us know your thoughts on how not to have, as you put it, “the blandest environmental blog.”

@Chris: I don’t see your comment in our queue. We don’t have any objection to on-topic criticism. But we don’t work 24 hour days, so comments are moderated during business hours.
Maybe you were just quoting John, above, whose comment was approved the next day since it came in after business hours?
At any rate, if you’d like to leave your comment here, I’d be happy to add it to the blog. Just let me know which post you’re commenting on.

Title: METHOD OF ENCAPSULATING MATERIAL FROM HUMANS OR ANIMALS IN A NATURAL GEMSTONE AND ITS PRODUCT
Abstract: A method of creating a diamond includes the steps of creating entry points and internal passages in a natural or synthetic diamond, infiltrating a mixture comprising ashes produced from living human and animal parts or deceased human or animal parts into the diamond, and crystallizing the mixture. The diamond may then be repolished or refacetted. The invention also includes diamonds having discrete internal portions comprising ashes made from living human and animal parts, which internal portion are substantially transparent and which have an index refraction substantially matching that of the diamond.

Total seating within a Java Times Caffé location is between 30 and 70.
If you are Interested or your company please follow up by getting more information at http://www.javatimescaffe.com
Support of Mexico’s Coffee Growers
A commitment to supporting Mexican coffee growers is core to Java Times Caffé’s
corporate vision. Tony currently sources 100 percent of his coffee from growers in
Mexico’s twelve coffee state regions. Each of these regions is promoted through the
retail locations, and 1.5 percent of all revenues from Java Times Caffé’s franchisees and
corporate operations are donated to Niños del Café, a charity focused on improving the
lives of children in Mexico’s coffee growing regions. Tony’s goal with Niños del Café is
to reach the $120,000 per month level of support. This would surpass the financial
support to growers currently provided by the Mexican government.
The Mexican government has already recognized the value of Java Times Caffé’s
support of local coffee growers. Java Times Caffé has qualified for a program where the Mexican government will pay up to one-half of the franchise fee for new franchisees in Mexico that join the Java Times Caffé system.

Personally, I think we should make a national switch to a 4 ten hour day work week. We could reduce our commute by 20% along with the emissions and dependency on foreign oil.
