Even worse, a truly thriving scientific capacity often points to the importance of collective action -- government action -- to constrain our worst selves. Climate change, species protection, habitat protection, sustainably harvesting the world's resources, physical and biological resources; each of these calls for control -- and Republicans would like all power vested in corporate America, not Americans. Science, of course, is fact-based and not easily contained by a knee-jerk ideological world view and therefore it must be scorned.
