If it happens it will be the final chapter in a sorry saga whose earlier stages are well documented in Robert F. Kennedy Jr.' book _Crimes Against Nature_. This covers how the Bush administration packed nearly every senior appointment with anti-regulatory, anti-science and anti-environment functionaries and ideologues. I got so annoyed reading it I had to stop a bit over half way through. I only hope someone in the Obama White House transition team has read the whole thing. This is sad, but not surprising.
