There is no reason why a scientist or journal cannot advise on policy.

Why? The scientific method is not sullied by someone offering advice. Residents of Wingnuttia and Simpletonia will use such actions to paint 'robed priests' and such, but that is their problem, not humanity's.

This is not to say that human nature as applied to the scientific method isn't infallible.

Best,

In my opinion, it's completely inappropriate for a scientific journal to be endorsing a presidential candidate.

When this combines with the recent endorsement from 76 Nobel laureates in science (that may need some more publicity, though), you have to laugh at anyone trained in science who still chooses McCain. I'd go so far as to say such voters are either ideologically blinded or possessed of vested interest.
