Smokey Joe Barton (R-TX) throws in the towel to the Dems: “You should have a tremendous celebration tonight for your effort on this bill.”

May 21, 2009

House Energy and Commerce Committee ranking minority member Joe Barton (R-TX) said that to Jay Inslee (D-WA) at a little after 7 PM EST.

I haven’t been live blogging best but it was an unexpected statement.  Barton also said to Inslee, “you have been an indefatigable proponent of the bill.”

Jay Inslee is a much loved and respected representative because he has clearly staked out a territory in which he can lead. The territory he has staked out on renewable energy (the future that makes us strong), global warming (the science is clear), and innovative economics (renewable / low carbon energy provides much needed jobs and a secure foundation for our economy) is consistent. It defines his political leadership in all arenas.
