Billion-tonne iceberg could be Arctic shipping hazard

http://www.vancouversun.com/Technology/Billion+tonne+iceberg+could+Arctic+shipping+hazard/1670898/story.html

In an interview last year with Canwest News Service, Canadian Ice Service director Douglas Bancroft warned that although the opening of Arctic sea ice in recent years holds the promise of more shipping in the Northwest Passage and other polar routes, the breakup of multi-year ice caused by record-setting warm temperatures could also pose an increased hazard for navigation.

Joe,

[JR: Ad hominem attack deleted.]

So how exactly are people meant to air their views on your editorial policy?

I am really looking forward to your piece on Jevon's Paradox (or the rebound effect as we apparently have to call it now).

Global warming is here and now. Ask those in the know....

Inuit village blames climate change for strange events

"Climate change is real," says Ron Mongeau, the town manager of Pangnirtung, a postcard-pretty spot girded by mountains and glacial fjords.

"It's not happening tomorrow or next week. It's happening here and it's affecting the life of everybody in the Arctic - every day."

Just found this on W-M:

http://postcarbon.org/what_bleeping_joke

"The Waxman-Markey bill is a pathetic continuation of the dance-around-the-edges approach our lawmakers have, no matter how much more dire the situation gets. What's doubly disturbing is the fact that a shift in political power towards the Democrats hasn't lead to any meaningful shift in policy. And its passage could give lawmakers and the general public a false, false assumption that we've actually done something to address our energy and climate crises. "

I coudn't have put it better myself.

Joe,

"UK greenhouse gas emissions are expected to be 23 per cent below 1990 levels by 2010, far exceeding its official target of a 12.5 per cent reduction in emissions."

Yet strangely, although I live in the UK, vote green, passionately lobby everyone I meet on CO2 reductions, guilt trip the next door neigbours for their short break to Egypt over the half term holiday, cycle, burn logs for heating, use CFL's, have hyper-insulated every part of the house, work at home ...

[JR: Ad hominem attack deleted.]

Robert AKA Trebor, AKA (now) Jamie!

p.s. I'll stop trying to find ways round your blocks when you unblock my posts. I may even make more of an effort to be civil.

CHina's wind industry is booming, and so is their coal industry. TO the point that all other greenhouse gas reductions by other countries will have little effect on climate. China increased its coal plant capacity by 90 GW in 2006, and kept adding. US coal capacity is 200GW.
