Paraphrasing Monty Python:

Angry lemmings hooked on propaganda are no basis for a system of government! :)

Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical media ceremony!

http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Monty_Python_and_the_Holy_Grail

Seriously, though, it's a good question whether Graham will be able to weather the storm.

Hopefully, though, he will sleep better at night.

Lin Bennett, the county republican chair said: "We have a state platform that if you want to run as a Republican in our state part of that platform includes ideals and goals we would like to see and one of them is smaller, and less government intrusion into people's lives,"

And, she considers cap'n trade to be an intrusion. When I was in middle school I attended a combined middle-high school. It was as if the final plague against the Egyptians was happening over again when I was there. It was coincidence that first born sons were dying in car accidents and some of meningitis and cancer but what made it really add up were the boys who just disappeared as they reached draft age. The haunted gaze in the eyes of the younger brothers was hard to meet and for us younger firstborns there was an ominousness that was unspoken but felt; a intrusive breath of mortality when boys should be feeling limitless and free.

The foreshadowing did not manifest for boys my age and our deaths where spread out in time and mostly suicides since people had started wearing seatbelts though the suicides have been flashy, perhaps to counter the anonymity of just disappearing as the boys ahead of us would do.

When I think of government intrusion, I think of the foreboding of those days. We knew of the boys coming back in body bags but we knew and had admired the boys who we never saw again and of whom we never learned their fate. The use of the draft to supply bodies for a war that no one understood must have been a little taste of what it was like to live under Stalin.

It seems likely to me that failing to reverse global warming will bring back a draft in this country for wars that also seem futile and pointless. More so because, having missed the opportunity now the avoid them, they will have an added layer of stupidity.

The level of government intrusion that feels like a biblical plague seems to me to be the thing to be most avoided. I'm sorry Bennett is so caught up in trivialities that she fails to see this. Her party does not seem prepared to lead on the issue of government intrusion at this time.
